What is deafness if not another mode of perception? This is a central topic in the current work of artist, theorist and maker Marco Donnarumma. At CTM 2024, Donnarumma will present several inputs from his long term-project I Am Your Body, where he investigates deafness, sound, and (artificial) intelligence through participatory research driven by d/Deaf and hard-of-hearing people. Ahead of his appearance at the festival, he shares how he became personally entangled in the project, its themes, and the d/Deaf community. Crucial to his current work is exploring the potential of d/Deaf corporeal prehension to open up new sensory horizons for music and performance – horizons currently underexplored in a world dominated by audism and oralism.
